Himachal Pradesh has been crowned the ultimate hill station destination in North India for decades. While it enjoyed the spotlight for a long time, it made people miss the beauty of its neighbour, Uttarakhand. This Himalayan state is filled with hidden gems that need recognition too! And we’re here to unravel one such destination today, Chaukori. From fruit orchards and tea plantations to awe-inspiring snow-capped mountain views, this hill station offers it all. Read on to know more about why this place should be on your 2024 travel cards.
Chaukori Is Nature At Its Best
Nestled at a height of 2,010 metres, Chaukori is a charming hamlet, just around 170 kilometres from Nainital. It is an ideal holiday destination if you’re looking for a peaceful, less crowded hill station with views that’ll leave you breathless. This little place is surrounded by lush forests and snow-capped Himalayan mountains that add to the whimsical vibe of the hill station.
You will find deodar and rhododendron forests here with Panchachuli, Nanda Devi, and Nanda Kot peaks in the background. Put together, this entire scene makes for a stunning landscape, especially during sunrise and sunset. Chaukori is particularly famous for its green tea gardens. Tea gardens here were developed during the British period, especially for the famous Berinag Tea. There are several tea gardens and processing units around Chaukori that you can visit during day tours.

Treks, Temple Visits & Wildlife Sanctuary Safaris – There Is A Lot To Do Here
Since Chaukori isn’t a commercialised hill station, you won’t find many adventure sports to indulge in here. What you can do is take nature walks and explore longer treks to enjoy the serene landscape of this hill station. You can also book a day tour at one of the various tea gardens here to see how your favourite beverage is grown and processed. The emerald beauty of these gardens is just a bonus!
If you love wildlife, then you can head to Askot Wildlife Sanctuary. Just 60 kilometres from Chaukori, this sanctuary is famous for its conservation of musk deer. For some spiritual time, you can head to the famous Patal Bhubaneswar temple, Hat-Kalika Temple, Mahakali Temple, and Nag Devta Mandir nearby. You can also visit nearby towns like Dharamgarh, Berinag, Didihat, and Gangolihat to make the most of your trip here.
If you wish to witness a picturesque sunset, take long strolls surrounded by greenery, and curl up in your hotel room to the view of snowy mountains, then Chaukori makes for an awesome destination in 2024.
