Most parts of India are tormented by the extreme temperature rise this summer. The uptick in mercury has been accompanied by the harshest heat waves and stepping outside during daylight is nothing less than a major struggle. We were fearful of 37°C-38°C in the past few years. However many Indian cities are now waking up to the temperature exceeding 40°C easily. Currently, residents of these places are facing a terrible time as the heat continues to grapple them.

These Indian Cities Experienced The Hottest Days Of This Year

Taking to X, India Meteorological Department (@Indiametdept) shared a list of the Observed Maximum Temperature recorded on Thursday.

Several parts of the country are currently dealing with the terrible impacts of intense heatwaves. Sadly, the effects of such conditions are only likely to increase as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted about severe heat waves in the next couple of days.

IMD shared the top 10 cities in India recording the maximum temperature on May 2, 2024.

  1. 46.2°C at Nandyal (Rayalaseema)
  2. 45.3°C at Palawancha (Telangana)
  3. 45.0°C at Bolangir (Odisha)
  4. 44.8°C at Retanchintala (Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yaman)
  5. 44.3°C at Karur Paramathi (Tamil Nadu)
  6. 44.2°C at Kalaikunda (Gangetic Wes Bengal)
  7. 43.6°C at Vellore (Tamil Nadu)
  8. 42.5°C at Dharmapuri (Tamil Nadu)
  9. 41.1°C at Sheikhpura (Bihar)
  10. 41.0°C at Balurghat (Sub-Himalayan West Bengal)

According to reports, Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh has experienced the hottest day as of now. The maximum temperature was 46.2°C and we can only imagine how torturing the heat felt to every person in the city. According to the bulletin released by IMD, several pockets of Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar are expected to face heatwave to severe heatwave conditions on Friday. There are chances of heatwaves in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha Puducherry, Rayalaseema, Saurashtra and Kutch, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.

IMD Issued Alerts For Heatwave & Rainfall

IMD has already issued a red alert concerning the heatwave. The alert is for Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu. Also, the department issued an orange alert in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Telangana, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

Some places in India are likely to enjoy some respite from the unbearable temperature as IMD also issued a yellow alert for the chances of rainfall. This is for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim.
