On some days, you feel like escaping the real world and moving to a tiny island to live in solitude. Until now, that was not possible, but now you can do that! Well, you need not buy an island to escape reality but you definitely can rent one in China. For $535 a year (AED 1965) you can rent a remote island of 2.5 acres in China’s Liaoning province. Chinese Government Puts Up Uninhabited Islands On Rent

China’s northeastern Liaoning province has over 500 isolated islands, and the government has decided to put up those islands for rent. As per the local news reports curated by a leading daily, only 44 islands of the Liaoning province are functional. Some of these islands are along the Yalu River, which forms the province’s border with North Korea.

The Island Can Cost As Low As $535 And As High As $3.6 Million Per 2.5 Acres Annually

While one can rent the deserted islands of Liaoning’s province, there are a few things that one needs to keep in mind. Firstly, the pricing follows a six-tier scale with development plans, the presence of marine wildlife, environmental affairs, and beaches factoring into costs. Secondly, you can’t just pay the rent and live on the island you have to present a detailed plan to the government before doing so. The outline should ensure that projects don’t require land reclamation or other complicated methods, a measure partly directed at preserving the environment. In recent years, China has been majorly criticised for creating havoc on marine habitats, hence with time, the government has become quite strict with the polices.

Proposed Projects Should Fall Within Nine Approved Categories

Interested people need to keep in mind that the projects need to fall within nine approved categories. Nine categories include tourism, agriculture, fishing, and urban development. Some islands in Liaoning province are in use for tourism, out of which many are developed into parks. The most popular of the islands is prominent for its polished gardens and rocky beaches.

Renting an island is now a real option. Would you ever consider renting one?
