Thailand is one of the most popular and frequently visited countries. In fact, a majority of its revenue depends on tourism. However, this time, you may have to think before visiting this paradise. Why? Well, apparently, the Government of Thailand is set to introduce a tourist fee for international travellers. Here are all the details that you need to know before making plans to visit this country.

Tourist Fee: Yes Or No?

According to the latest reports, Thailand is all set for introducing a tourist fee of ₹734 for international travellers. The estimated time of this new fee is from the month of June. Shedding light on this topic, Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn stated that this fee won’t be collected from visitors having border passes and work permits. However, international visitors who don’t have these documents will be subjected to a fee of THB 300 (₹734). Further, he revealed that the collected money will be used in the development of tourist destinations. Also, the money will be a relief fund for tourists involved in accidents. This year, Thailand is expecting an estimated arrival of twenty-five million travellers.

Thailand: Second Largest Southeast Economy

Thailand is the second-largest Southeast Asian economy. And, a majority of its Gross Domestic Product is dependent on tourism. Now, after the pandemic, it is trying to lure as many tourists as possible. According to the Civil Aviation Authority Of Thailand, tourists visiting are supposed to produce a letter that states their immunised status or their recovery from COVID-19 within six months. And, those who haven’t received their vaccines are to explain the reason behind it. However, people with a Thai passport or travelling through Thailand are not subjected to this rule.
