On Tuesday, May 21, a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore experienced extreme turbulence. So much so, that the plane had to make an emergency landing at the Bangkok airport. Though the flight made it to the ground, many passengers were severely injured owing to the turbulence. Many were rushed to the hospital where they’re still in intensive care. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this tragic incident.

6 Suffer Head Trauma, 22 Suffer Spinal Injuries, 1 Dead

According to an article which was recently published by the Deccan Herald or DH, the Singapore Airlines flight was carrying a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew members. The flight, which was numbered SQ321, experienced severe turbulence mid-air.

As many as 22 people suffered from spinal injuries and around six people suffered head injuries. Among those who suffered a head injury was a little girl who was only two years old. She sustained a concussion.

The oldest passenger to sustain an injury was a man who was 83 years old. Another old man who was 73 years old had a heart attack during the turbulence and unfortunately, succumbed to it. The deceased has been identified as Geoffrey Kitchen. He was with his wife Linda and the couple was on their way to a six-week holiday across South Asia and Australia.

Other Important Details About The Singapore Airlines Flight

As per reports, the Boeing 777-300ER encountered sudden turbulence 37,000 feet over the Irrawaddy Basin. The turbulence hit the aircraft around ten hours after the flight took off. If reports are to go by, the flight dropped a whopping 6,000 feet in just three minutes.

As per the testimony of many passengers, the flight was horrifying and many thought they would die. Many people even felt like it was the longest two hours of their lives. We wish the injured a speedy recovery.
