All the lovely young minds who are planning to study abroad and are waiting to clear their visa interview process, we got you! To make sure you are able to clear your student visa interview for the US smoothly, follow the following tips. These tips have been suggested by the officials at the US Embassy in India, so you can follow them to the T.

  1. Tell your authentic story. First and foremost, think of the interview as a conversation. Tell the visa officer why you want to study in the US and give them honest answers. Tell them your background and how the programme can help in your career growth.
  2. Don’t memorise your answers. As mentioned, make the interview more of a conversation rather than a memorised script. It’s okay to prepare your answers but don’t make them sound like a broken record. It takes time away from your student visa interview.
  3. Try Answering direct questions. There can be chances where you will be thrown a curveball in the form of a question you didn’t prepare for. Don’t panic, take a breather, and try to answer it to the best of your ability without going off the track and talking about random things.
  4. There is no set list of questions. According to the US Embassy in India, there are no set questions for a student visa interview. There are no quotas either, so prepare to the best of your ability and let the conversation flow.
  5. Self-preparation is enough. Despite popular belief, you don’t need a consultant or coaching to prepare for student visa interviews to the US. If you’re qualified, then that’s more than enough. Save that money for when you reach your dream school in the States!
  6. Don’t carry fake documents of any kind. This one is truly a no-brainer but still, do not carry any fake or forged documents during your interview or at any stage of visa processing. This could lead to a permanent inability for any sort of visa to the United States.
