There has been a surge in swine flu cases in Assam. The Barak Valley has reported several cases in the last few days and this has raised concerns amongst the people. With the aid of Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), the state’s health department officials are now examining whether the H1N1 outbreak has spread to other parts of the district or not. Read on to learn more about the symptoms and precautionary steps to keep in mind to stay safe from swine flu.

Swine Flu Outbreak Reported In Assam’s Barak Valley

With four active cases and the death of a 13-month-old in Barak Valley, Assam is seeing a surge in swine flu cases right now. These cases are reported in areas like Cachar and Hailakandi. Assam’s health department is concerned that there might be an outbreak of this flu in other parts of Barak Valley as well. They have joined hands with ASHA, ANM, and other frontline workers to check how far the flu has spread.

What’s concerning is that Assam isn’t the only state observing the flu outbreak. Rajasthan reported more than 1,000 cases of swine flu in the first four months of 2024! Jaipur, alone, reported 517 cases in the last 33 days.

Symptoms & Precautions To Keep In Mind

Keeping the risk of swine flu in mind, we’ve listed the symptoms of this flu below. It is important to know that H1N1 flu symptoms resemble those of the common flu, so in case you have persisting symptoms then seek medical help immediately.

  1. Fever
  2. Sore throat
  3. Cough
  4. Runny or stuffy nose
  5. Severe headache
  6. Fatigue
  7. Nausea
  8. Vomiting
  9. Diarrhea
  10. Breathlessness

Stay safe and keep these precautions in mind.

  1. Cover nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing. It’s preferable to use a tissue and dispose of it immediately after use.
  2. Wash your hands with soap and water regularly.
  3. Keep a hand sanitiser with you at all times.
  4. Maintain distance from people who have signs of flu or have flu.
  5. Seek medical help in case you feel the symptoms mentioned above.
  6. Isolate yourself immediately in case you’re detected with the flu.
  7. Get the annual influenza vaccine to reduce the risk and severity of H1N1 flu
