According to Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority Naif al Abri, Oman will introduce six new airports which will be operational by 2028-29. He further stated that as work progresses on the design of these new projects, the kingdom would have 13 airports, which will increase tourism. According to prior reports, the new Musandam Airport is expected to be finished by the second half of 2028 once all project studies have been finished and a suitable location has been selected.

It is predicted that when these airports are completed, the 17 million passengers who now use Sultanate of Oman airports will rise to 50 million by 2040. In addition to the completion of a new terminal building at Salalah and new airports in Duqm and Suhar, the Sultanate of Oman also witnessed the opening of a new terminal building at Muscat Airport. Not to forget, this airport can handle up to 20 million people annually.

Earlier, the opening of commercial operations on Muscat International Airport’s southern runway was confirmed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). This action is a component of its initiatives to develop Oman’s aviation industry and improve airport facilities. The CAA claims that the additional runway will contribute to diversifying take-off and landing paths, improving both local and international aviation traffic, and reaching the strategic goals of Vision Oman 2040.

The airport services will benefit greatly from the addition of the southern runway. It will accommodate all aircraft, including the A380, reduce noise levels in the surrounding areas, increase speed and flexibility during takeoff and landing operations, and reduce energy consumption through the use of LED lighting that will be available around-the-clock.
