Ahead of the Biennial Elections 2024, the Mumbai Police has issued comprehensive guidelines to ensure the smooth conduct of polling on June 26. The directive details stringent restrictions across the city during the electoral process.

The police have emphasised the importance of maintaining public order and tranquillity during the upcoming Legislative Council Biennial Elections for Mumbai Graduates and Mumbai Teachers Constituencies. Their proactive measure aims to ensure a peaceful electoral process, especially with a substantial number of voters expected to visit polling stations to exercise their democratic rights. Recognising the potential for disruptions, the police have deemed it necessary to address these issues preemptively.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Akbar Pathan, issued a preventive order outlining strict regulations. No one except candidates, accredited agents, election officials, or on-duty public servants can loiter or assemble within a 100-meter radius of polling stations from 6:00 a.m. to 12 midnight on June 26, 2024. This restriction aims to maintain order and ensure the integrity of the electoral process during this period. This measure aims to prevent obstruction, annoyance, or any risk thereof to individuals lawfully present.

Guidelines And Restrictions To Know

Furthermore, the directive mandates that all voters queue in separate lines based on gender outside polling stations. Each voter will enter the polling station in sequential order under the supervision of the Presiding Officer. The use of mobile phones, wireless sets, or any electronic devices within the 100-metre perimeter of polling stations is strictly restricted to authorised election officials and observers appointed by the commission.

The Mumbai Police emphasise maintaining neutrality and decorum by prohibiting campaign posters or banners within 100 meters of polling stations. They strictly forbid the use of loudspeakers or megaphones near these sites to prevent undue influence or disturbance during the elections.

These measures, aim to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure a fair and orderly polling day experience for all voters. The Mumbai Police’s proactive approach underscores their commitment to facilitating a safe and conducive environment for democratic participation.
