11,000 Litres Of Milk, Ghee & Curd Poured In Foundation Pit Of Rajasthan Temple

Several religions follow the tradition of offering milk and eatables to deities. Maharashtra’s Shani Shingnapur offers oil to Lord Shani. Interestingly, in Madhya Pradesh’s Kal Bhairav Temple, devotees offer liquor to the deity. On December 26, around 11,000 litres of milk, ghee and curd was poured in the foundation pit of Rajasthan’s Devnarayan temple. Scores of men surrounded the pit with huge cans of edibles and poured it into the pit during the foundation ceremony for the temple situated in Ratlai region of Jhalawar district. According to Hindustan Times, 11,000 litres of offerings comprised of 1500 litres of curd, 1 quintal of ghee apart from milk. The total cost of the offerings for the foundation ceremony of the Rajasthan temple was ₹1.50 lakh. Spokesperson of the temple construction committee, Ramlal Gujjar informed Hindustan Times that they appealed to the Gujjar community members to donate these offerings. And they did so generously. While it’s not compulsory to make these offerings, Ramlal told the news agency that they have done it in the past. He stressed that it’s nothing compared to what God gives us.

Ramlal Gujjar states to Hindustan Times “We collected 11,000 litres of milk, desi ghee and curd from the Gujjar community members and even others for the foundation ceremony of the Devnarayan temple as a mark of reverence for deity Lord Devnarayan. It is not at all a waste as in Gujjar community we pour some milk on deity Devnarayan as it protects our cattle.” Devotees can visit this temple in 2 years as it will be ready by then.
