In a tragic series of events, joyful festivities turned into mournful incidents when a firecracker explosion took place during Lord Jagannath’s Chandan Yatra Festival. A number of devotees were injured during this unfortunate incident. Thankfully though, no reports of fatalities have come to light. The injured are being treated in nearby hospitals and health centres. Many politicians have taken to social media to express their condolences over this sad and tragic incident.

15 Injured During Odisha’s Chandan Yatra Festiva In Puri

Lord Jagannath’s Chandan Yatra Festival is an awaited event. Thousands of devotees from across the country throng to the destination. The festival is often accompanied by firecrackers. This year, too, devotees were celebrating by bursting firecrackers.

However, a spark from the firework landed on a pile of unlit crackers and the whole pile exploded. According to an article which was recently published by Deccan Herald, as many as 15 people were injured in the incident.

As per a report by India Today, the number of people injured is more than 20. Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and shared his condolences. Dharmendra Pradhan, who is the minister of Education, also shared his regret.

Cost Of Treatment To Be Borne By The Chief Minister’s Fund

In the post made by the Odisha CM, he said that all the medical expenses incurred owing to this incident will be borne by the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Chandan Yatra Festival is celebrated by the devotees of Lord Jagannath. The festivities take place in the region of Puri in Odisha. It is one of the most awaited festivals in the country, especially for devotees of Lord Jagannath.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers of being callous around fireworks and is a stark reminder to everyone to be more cautious. Firecrackers can add to the festivities but if treated with callousness, can turn the festivities into a grim scene.
