Imagine heading to work, not to the sound of screeching brakes, but to the soothing notes of a qanun or the rhythmic beats of a darbuka. Well, it’s happening! The Dubai Metro Music Festival is making its much-anticipated return. From September 21 to 27, prepare for live music performances that will turn five key metro stations into lively stages. Organised by Brand Dubai, in collaboration with the RTA, the 4th edition of this unique event will transform your metro journey into a magical musical ride.

The festival runs daily from 5 pm to 10 pm, with performances rotating between five key metro stations:
1. The Dubai Mall
2. Mall of the Emirates
3. BurJuman
4. Union
5. DMCC
That means you have no excuse to miss it unless you’re avoiding the metro, but then you’re missing out on Dubai’s coolest gig. Performances are on rotation, so whether you’re a regular or an occasional rider, you’ll get your dose of musical goodness.
20 Diverse Talents To Perform
20 talented musicians will serve melodies that’ll make you forget about that meeting you’re late for.You know it’s a festival worth its salt when it has an electric guitar sharing the stage (or, in this case, platform) with a Qanun, a traditional Middle Eastern string instrument. Dubai’s cosmopolitan audience will experience a musical feast featuring instruments as varied as the personalities on the train. Imagine swaying to the rhythm of the marimba one minute and getting mesmerised by the haunting tones of a saxophone the next.
If you’re lucky, you might even catch a performance by a nine-year-old Qanun prodigy or a 14-year-old Emirati piano player with autism, whose talent is bound to stop commuters in their tracks, literally. And if that’s not quirky enough for you, there’s even a segment showcasing recycled-material instruments. Yes, that old tin can be a drum in disguise! And if you think you’re too old to enjoy a children’s drumming show, think again! These kids will be beating drums with such enthusiasm, that you’ll wish you had their energy.

A Musical Commute
From beatboxing to traditional heritage tunes, the variety promises that there’s something for everyone, even the most stoic of commuters. So, if you’re in Dubai from the 21st to the 27th of September, ditch the cab and hop on the metro. You might just discover your new favourite musician while waiting for your train.
