The beaches which are the cleanest in the world get the Blue Flag certification. And in India, there are 12 beaches which have already received the certification for their pristine beauty and neatness.  These Blue Tag certified beaches have given India an international recognition. According to a Times of India report, referring to the beaches, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar had tweeted, “An outstanding feat, as no #BLUEFLAG nation has ever been awarded for 8 beaches in a single attempt (sic).” To get Blue Flag certification, the beaches need to fulfil 33 stringent criteria. What’s more, India is aiming to achieve the certification for 100 more beaches. Here is a list of the 12 breathtakingly beautiful blue-tag certified beaches in India that you must visit:

1. Shivrajpur Beach, Gujarat

Around 15 minutes north of the Rukmini Temple, lies this idyllic beach with clear blue waters and soft sands. It sits midway of a lighthouse and a rocky coastline. Also, the beach is disabled friendly. A smooth pathway is there at the beach and personnel posted there to assist the handicapped people to reach the beach. The beach has basic facilities like drinking water, first-aid station, toilets and recliner.

2. Ghoghla Beach, Diu

Diu’s official website mentions Ghoghla as,  “Clean and safe it’s a great spot for those who want to enjoy privacy and at the same time indulge in some water sports like parasailing, surfing and banana boat. The beach is well maintained and the best choice for a family holiday.” Ghoghla beach sits around 15 kilometres away from Diu’s main town, in the village of Ghoghla.

3. Kasarkod, Karnataka

This eco-beach is one of the secluded beaches in India with mesmerising casuarina plantations that will let you embrace serenity in pure form. It is located near the Honavar taluk and has a lighthouse as well, along with other facilities like boating and children park. While you’re here, you can also visit the nearby fishing harbour.

4. Padubidri Beach, Karnataka

The tranquil blue waters, the soft white sand and lush greenery make Karnataka’s Padubidri beach one of the best beaches in the world. The beach is nestled in Udipi and it is clean and profoundly captivating. It is far from the crowds and you can simply sit here to enjoy the crashing waves. The beach has a decent restroom and tiled pathways too.

5. Kappad Beach, Kerala

This beach in Kerala has a great historic significance. In the year 1498,  Vasco- da-Gama. along with 170 men first stepped into Kerala on this beach. The beach is known for pretty migratory birds, striking rocks and more. Recently, the beach underwent a revamp with construction of jogging track, rain shelters, modern washrooms, installation of solar panels, etc.

6. Rushikonda Beach, Andhra Pradesh

Flanked by stunning greenery and beautiful peaks, the Rushikonda beach is one of the most picturesque beaches in Vishakhapatnam. At this beach, one can enjoy activities like water skiing, windsurfing and swimming. Rushikonda beach is one of the most virgin beaches of South India.

7. Radhanagar Beach, Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Radhanagar Beach on Havelock Island in Andamans is known as the 16th most beautiful beach in the world. It is also the most magnificent beaches in entire Asia. The emerald blue waves, the soft sand, the gorgeous sunset and sunrise at this beach are therapy for the stressed soul. 8. Golden Beach, Odisha

The Golden Beach is Puri attracts a large number of visitors, thanks to its marvellous beauty. It has a safe bathing zone, watchtowers, solar lighting system,  public toilets and more and it is disabled-friendly too. At the Golden Beach, the annual Puri Beach Festival takes place every year. The sand art displays out here will have your heart for sure.

9. Eden Beach, Puducherry

Eden Beach in Puducherry is a Blue-Flag certified beach sitting just 7 km from the tourist-favourite White Town. While Puducherry is flanked by a stream of beaches, Eden Beach is the Union Territory’s first-ever to get a Blue-Flag certification. The clean water, thicketed by palm groves, offers serene views of the backwaters of the Chunnambar River.

10. Kadmat Beach, Lakshadweep

Lakshadweep’s Kadmat Beach, popular for its scuba diving and snorkelling water sports, is known for its sincere commitment to safety, environmental sustainability and accessibility standards. And that’s why the island’s prized beach has got this certification. Blessed with coral-rich water and abundant marine life, Kadmat Beach is one of the best Blue Flag beaches in India that you must visit.

11. Minicoy Thundi Beach, Lakshadweep

Not one, but two beaches in Lakshadweep proudly hold the Blue-Flag certification. Apart from the Kadmat Beach, Minicoy Thundi Beach is also a Blue Flag Beach. The white sand, turquoise blue water, and modern amenities built for the comfort and convenience of visitors makes this island beach a force to reckon with.

12. Kovalam Beach, Tamil Nadu

Sitting near Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu, Kovalam Beach has ample facilities for surfing, bathing and parking. The eco-label certification was given to Kovalam Beach due to its great water quality and its offerings like peaceful boat rides, beautiful landscape. This beach is often flanked by boats carrying fishermen.
