Credit cards hold the crown in international travel primarily due to their widespread acceptance. Whether you’re exploring the ancient streets of Rome, relaxing on the beaches of Bali, or navigating the bustling markets of Tokyo, they are accepted almost everywhere. International locations such as Australia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Canada continue to be popular among Indian customers. According to a new survey, various services including travel miles, cashback, rewards, high acceptance, foreign exchange rates, and high spending limits continue to promote international card usage.

Visa, a worldwide digital payments services firm, documented Indian travel behaviour in its ‘Global Travel Intentions Study 2023’. According to the report, 95% of Indian travellers aim to utilise credit cards at overseas travel destinations to make their trips more convenient. 99% of international travellers prefer to use cards (credit, debit, and prepaid) throughout their trips.  According to the research, the primary drivers of the sector are sustainability, infrastructure, and experiential tourism. 86% of people are very interested in eco-friendly and sustainable travel and offerings, and 60% actively seek such possibilities.

Credit cards are likely to evolve further, cementing their role as indispensable companions for those who traverse the world in search of new experiences and adventures.

Credit cards provide an additional layer of security and peace of mind during international travel. Many premium credit cards offer travel insurance, covering aspects such as trip cancellations, lost baggage, and medical emergencies. This safety net adds a layer of protection that cash transactions or other payment methods may not offer.

Credit cards tailored for international travellers often come with a myriad of rewards and perks. From airline miles and hotel points to cashback on travel-related expenses, these cards offer enticing incentives that can significantly enhance the overall travel experience.  Certain premium credit cards offer exclusive access to airport lounges worldwide. The airport lounge benefit adds a touch of luxury to the travel experience, making credit cards an attractive choice for frequent flyers and globetrotters.

The global acceptance, currency conversion advantages, travel rewards, and enhanced security features make credit cards the preferred choice for savvy travellers.
