For last year’s Diwali Special Sunday Brunch episode our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani was joined by the Khichdi cast. We had a Khichdi episode with Supriya Pathak, Rajeev Mehta, Anang Desai, Vandana Pathak, and Jamnadas Majethia. They came together for their latest ‘Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan’. JD Majethia Shared With Us How Khichdi Got Its Name
Kamiya posed a query as to how the show on the Khichdi got its name and who was the mastermind behind it. JD Majethia who played the character of Himanshu recounted a brief story in response. He informed us that although they were done with the script for the pilot episode, the name for this TV show came to their director, Aatish Kapadia, while they were conversing.
When you are filming a comedy show, there is always room for improvisation and spontaneous recommendations from the actors and the filming crew. Sometimes it works, sometimes it might not. This spontaneous thinking resulted in the show being titled ‘Khichdi’. JD Majethia said that Aatish exclaimed, “Khichdi!” out of the blue. They proceeded to discuss that earlier the television serials broadcasted on STAR Plus began with the letter ‘K’.

Determining whether the show was a comedy or a cookery show would thus be a mind-twisting puzzle for the viewers. That’s how the title originated. It is safe to say that the idea behind puzzling the audience on the genre of the show worked pretty well. Khichdi was Khichdi-ing just as it aired on TV!
Why Did He Steal Money During His Childhood?
JD Majethia shared an incident from his childhood days where he used to steal money. He told us that he adored storytelling and would narrate the storylines from the movies he watched at the cinema hall. For that he needed money and he would take out money from his father and brother’s pockets. This couldn’t go on for longer for JD Majethia.
He continued that his mother caught him one day and he couldn’t think straight. So he quickly got out of the house but when he came back after a couple of minutes, his father was standing outside. JD Majethia knew he was in grave trouble. While narrating the story, he got extremely emotional and said that his father told him that he works hard for the family but it is a huge family maybe that is not sufficient.
His father told him that he would work harder so that JD Majethia doesn’t have to steal money. This touched him deeply and had tears rolling down. This was a very emotional section of the video.
