Ahmedabad’s New Yellow Junction Box Combats Traffic Jams; Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi In Dire Need Of It

We all hate traffic! People living in metro tier 1 cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and others will surely relate to the former sentence. Meanwhile, at a junction in Panjarapol, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) painted a distinctive yellow box with crisscrossing lines. These yellow box intersections are painted as a way to ease traffic congestion and guarantee a steady flow of vehicles.

Ahmedabad’s New Yellow Junction Box Combats Traffic Jams

The new yellow Junction Box in Ahmedabad has been painted to combat traffic congestion at the major junctions that are prone to it. It looks like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and other cities too need it.

One must wait until the exit is clear before entering the yellow box, which means there must be room on the other side of the intersection for your car to pass through the box entirely without stopping. There is one exception, though. A driver of a vehicle may enter the box and wait for all oncoming traffic to pass before making a turn. It is legal to wait at the Junction Box until the exit of your choice is free.

These yellow boxes are generally positioned near fire stations or ambulance stations where there is a significant volume of emergency vehicle movements, as well as intersections with heavy traffic congestion.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to install yellow boxes at 25 carefully chosen busy intersections throughout the city, beginning with Panjarapol. Drivers are not allowed to enter these yellow boxes unless they have a clear exit or are waiting to turn right, according to the regulations.

It intends to adopt a fine structure for those who break the yellow box rule, similar to the sanctions applied for violating stop lines, in order to compel compliance. According to sources, the AMC and the city traffic police are educating AI systems built into CCTV cameras placed all over the city to record the registration numbers of vehicles that break the law.

It wants to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion problems in Ahmedabad’s congested regions through the implementation of these yellow boxes and the related penalties for infractions.
