Alliance Air Launches India’s Longest ATR Route; Connects Delhi-Kolkata Covering 1313 Kilometres

Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India, has taken to the skies with a new record-breaker – the longest ATR route currently operating in India.  This impressive route connects the bustling capital city of Delhi with the vibrant metropolis of Kolkata, covering a distance of 1313 kilometres.

ATR Aircraft Take Centre Stage

Alliance Air primarily utilises ATR aircraft, known for their efficiency and suitability for regional routes.  This new service, which commenced operations on April 25th, 2024, marks a significant development for the airline, pushing the boundaries of what’s achievable with these regional workhorses.

The ATR aircraft offers a comfortable flying experience for passengers. While the exact model deployed on this route isn’t specified, Alliance Air’s fleet consists primarily of ATR 72-600s, known for their spacious cabins and ample legroom.  The flight operates five times a week, providing passengers with increased flexibility when planning their journeys between Delhi and Kolkata.

This new route isn’t just about connecting major cities; it has the potential to boost regional connectivity as well.  By offering a direct connection between Delhi and Kolkata, Alliance Air might encourage travellers to explore smaller destinations along the way.  This could benefit regional airports and potentially stimulate tourism in lesser-known areas. Another key factor to consider is competition.  Several major airlines already operate on this route, offering passengers a variety of options.  Alliance Air’s competitive pricing strategy could be a major draw for budget-conscious travellers seeking a comfortable and convenient journey.

However, some challenges lie ahead.  While ATR aircraft are fuel-efficient, the longer flight time compared to larger jets might be a deterrent for some passengers who prioritise speed.  Additionally, convincing travellers accustomed to established airlines to switch might require innovative marketing strategies from Alliance Air.

Despite these challenges, the launch of this record-breaking route signifies Alliance Air’s ambition and its potential to disrupt the regional aviation landscape in India.  The increased connectivity and potentially competitive pricing could benefit both business and leisure travellers.  As this service settles into operation, it will be interesting to see how it impacts air travel between Delhi and Kolkata and perhaps paves the way for further expansion of ATR routes across the country.
