Staying in another country, apart from your family, friends and in an unknown place is difficult. Most of the times, people are not aware of the rules that are followed there and land up in trouble. The current data submitted to the Rajya Sabha by the government shows that many Indian nationals are in prison in 90 countries!
Many Indian Nationals Are In Prison In 90 Countries!
According to information provided to the Rajya Sabha by the government on Thursday, there are up to 8,330 Indian citizens incarcerated abroad, 1,611 of them are detained in the United Arab Emirates.
Minister of State for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, stated in a written response to the Upper House that 1,461 Indian nationals were detained in Saudi Arabia! Additionally, there are many Indian nationals in prison in Qatar, Nepal, Malaysia, Kuwait, the US, Pakistan, the UK and Bahrain.
He claimed that 139 Indian people were imprisoned in Oman, 157 were in Italy, and 178 were in China. According to the evidence provided, there are Indian people incarcerated in 90 different nations. He further stated that Indian missions and posts overseas frequently pursue the subject of the release and repatriation of Indian people with the relevant local authorities.

The Procedure After Being Convicted
According to the minister, local authorities do not exchange information on convicts unless the person in question gives their approval due to the strict privacy rules that are in place in many nations.
An Indian mission or post immediately contacts the local foreign office and other relevant local authorities upon learning of the detention or arrest of an Indian national. This is done to obtain consular access in order to ascertain the facts of the case as reported by Moneycontrol.
We have come across several cases where Indian nationals were detained and kept inside the prison. Among these prisoners, several of them are detained under alleged charges.
The officials at the Indian Embassy are responsible for taking care of these people in other countries.
