The Assam government announced that the state government will be providing mid-day meals to 40 lakh students below the age of 14 years at home, during the 21-day nationwide lockdown against the coronavirus pandemic.

What’s In It?

Kumar Sanjay Krishna, the Chief Secretary of Assam stated that 40 lakh students in Guwahati will be fed mid-day meals at home. The Chief Secretary informed that they have ensured students won’t go to bed hungry, and for that, the state government has decided to provide mid-day meals to students at home. He further added that the Assam government has taken all necessary steps to combat coronavirus and organized facilities for quarantine and provided healthcare facilities to fight coronavirus to all government-run hospitals in the state.

The Chief Secretary then went on to explain that more than 2000 facilties have been organized for quarantine and over 500 facilities have been set up for isolation. There are sufficient places for ICU facilities. The government currently has around 150 ventilators and they are trying to procure more within a week. He added that they have collected 217 samples out of which 209 have been tested so far, and all of them were negative. A large number of people are quarantined in their home and all district deputy commissioners have been instructed to monitor them regularly.

Sarbananda Sonowal, the Chief Minister of Assam stated that anyone found violating quarantine orders will be dealt with strictly by the Assam Government. The Chief Minister informed that the government will take strict action against people who don’t follow lockdown directions. He also assured citizens that Assam has sufficient rice for next 3 months and there won’t be any difficulty for people in the state for procuring essential commodities.
