Actor Bhagyashree recently went on a fun-filled family vacation to Uttarakhand. The actor shared glimpses of her vacation on Instagram where she went on a bike ride with her husband, Himalaya Dasani, sat by the bonfire and also relaxed in her traditional cottage. Interestingly, the actor gave a glimpse of a special ingredient, integral to the cooking of Pahadi food in Uttarakhand—it’s Daindoosa.

Bhagyashree Discovers Daindoosa AKA Pahadi Namak In Uttarakhand

In a video shared on Instagram and Twitter, Bhagyashree tells her fans that she has got Daindoosa AKA Pahadi Namak. Donning a yellow sweater and dark jeans, the Maine Pyaar Kiya actress holds a bag filled with packets of Pahadi Namak, as she excitedly promises to reveal the recipe. She takes us on a terrace filled with sari-clad women preparing Daindoosa. They tell her that it’s used in fruit chaat and salad.

This is not your ordinary salt, it’s salt prepared with spices and herbs, and then used in preparing Pahadi food. Bhagyashree asks to taste the salt. And then goes on to reveal the recipe. To prepare Daindoosa, ingredients like cumin, garlic, stalks of green garlic, coriander and turmeric are used. It’s all ground and mixed together on a stone or using mortar and pestle. After the salt is prepared, the women put them in salt packets. Bhagyashree tells us, viewers, that this salt is not found anywhere else as it’s a speciality of Uttarakhand. And yes, she says it’s delicious.

She Shares A Quick Recipe To Make It At Home

Here’s a quick recipe to prepare Daindoosa AKA Pahadi Namak at home

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 whole garlic
  • 3-4 stalks of green garlic
  • Sping Onion (optional)
  • Fistful of coriander
  • 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric
  • 1 packet of salt

Grind these ingredients together using mortar and pestle. And there you have it, Daindoosa AKA Pahadi Namak! Use it to pack your dishes with extra flavour, especially fruit chaat, bhel and salads. In her caption, the actress also said you can mix this with ghee and have it with rice or roti. It’s a quintessential ingredient in every household of Uttarakhand.
