Cancel Plans For Shimla And Manali As 250 Roads Have Been Blocked Due To Heavy Snowfall

According to news reports, around 250 roads have been blocked in Himachal Pradesh due to heavy snowfall. The authorities are advising tourists to not make any plans to travel to the popular Northern region, which includes places like Shimla and Manali as well.

The Kullu police is also advising tourists to not travel further towards Manali as various routes have been blocked due to heavy snowfall. There have been reports of over 300 vehicles being stranded too.

The Shimla police has been posting constant updates on their Facebook page and insisting that tourists should follow it. ‘There is heavy snow and trees have been falling. The roads are slippery. Everyone must reach home by 5PM,’ they wrote in their latest post. Along with this they shared the helpline number as well. The pictures that have been posted on the official page of Shimla police shows cars covered in snow, roads blocks and bulldozers carrying out scooping drives across the highway.

Places Receiving Snowfall

According to reports by the Meteorological Department, ‘Shimla received 20cms of snowfall on Tuesday and Wednesday.’

Dalhousie in Chamba district, Manali in Kullu district, Kalpa in Kinnaur district and Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti’s administrative centre have all received fresh snowfall in the past few days.

The northern region is witnessing an extreme cold wave. Last month too, temperatures dropped in the national capital – Delhi, where temperatures dropped to the lowest in 119 years. There has been a conscious effort to advise tourists to stay away from the popular hill stations. But despite that, many have been making their way towards North to see fresh snowfall.
