What Is It?

Perched at a height of 2300 feet above ground, the Chanderi Fort in Badlapur is the perfect one-day getaway from Mumbai & Pune. The Chanderi Fort was built in the 1600s during the rule of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and it was used to keep a watch on the surrounding regions. Once you trek up to the top, you will see a bronze statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji and it lies right in the middle of the Matheran mountain range.

About The Trek

The Chanderi Fort trek is a 3 hour walk from the base of the fort and you’ll have to cross through dense jungles and waterfalls to get to the top. Sounds exciting, amiright? On your way, you’ll find plenty of small waterfalls, caves and rock formations. If you’re going for the Chanderi Fort trek during the monsoon season, be prepared for picturesque views of the hills, and greenery. Once you get to the top, you’ll find a large cave with a statue of Lord Shiva.

How To Get There

From the Central Railway, Vangani or Badlapur station will be the closest for you. From either of the stations, take an auto-rickshaw to the base of Chinchvali village. 

Points To Note

There is no food/water available at the top of the fort. You’ll find a few food stalls at the base of Chinchvali village that will serve snacks, beverages and water. It would be best if you buy whatever you need for the trek beforehand.
