Chandigarh, Panchkula & Mohali To Soon Have A Metro!
Construction is expected to start in March 2024 once the alternative analysis report (AAR) and detailed project report (DPR) are finished by December 2023, according to a recent announcement from RITES. The ambitious project is anticipated to be a huge benefit to the Tricity area, offering locals and commuters a quick and effective form of transport. According to a Financial Express story, it is also expected to spur economic growth and generate new jobs.
The DPR will offer a full project plan, including its cost, schedule, and technical requirements. While the AAR will evaluate the viability of several metro alignment possibilities. Construction can start if the government approves the DPR. RITES delivered its inception report for the Tricity Metro project at a conference.
The inception report is an essential stage in making sure that all parties involved are on the same page regarding the consultant’s strategy and timetable for carrying out the evaluation. According to the report, representatives from Punjab and Haryana also attended the conference.
The 1st Phase To Span A Significant Territory
With a length of 77 km, the Tricity Metro project’s first phase will span a significant territory. 35 kilometres in Chandigarh, 11 in Panchkula, and 31 in Mohali and New Chandigarh would be part of this. Phase 1 of construction is expected to start in 2027 and end in 2037. This is a growth from the initial strategy, which called for 66 kilometres of coverage in Phase 1.
The cost to compile the Tricity Metro project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) is ₹6.54 crore. In fact, additional government clearances will be requested after the DPR is completed. The state government, the central government, and a loan organisation will each provide 20 per cent, 20 per cent, and 60 per cent of the project’s funding, respectively. The project is expected to cost approximately ₹10,570 crore.
According to a senior Chandigarh administration official, they shall send the reports to the government for clearance as soon as they are available. And they anticipate that Metro construction will start in March of next year.
The Chandigarh Metro project is anticipated to be a huge benefit to the city by giving locals and commuters a quick and effective means of transit.
