Chennai Has The Highest Density Of CCTV Cameras In The World; More Than London & Beijing

We are living in a digital age and we cannot imagine a world without CCTV cameras. From our appartments to offices, they are installed everywhere. They have become a quintessential part of our daily spaces. But did you know that Chennai has the world’s highest CCTV cameras per square kilometre? A report by SurfShark looked at the world’s 130 most populated cities and found that Chennai has the densest CCTV networks in the world.

Hyderabad Follows Chennai With The Most CCTV Camera Density

According to the report Chennai in Tamil Nadu has 657 CCTVs per square kilometres. The second city on the list is Hyderabad with 480 CCTVs per square kilometre. China’s city of Harbin is in the third place with 411 CCTVs per square kilometres, followed by London in the UK with 399 CCTVs. India’s capital New Delhi managed to grab the eightth spot, with 289 CCTVs per square kilometres followed by the Chinese cities of Kunming and Beijing .

Chinese Cities Top The List

Quite surprisingly, the Chinese has six cities listed in the top 10 cities with most CCTV density. The fun fact is that even though Beijing secures the 10th position, it has the highest number of CCTV installations in the world with over 1.1 million CCTV cameras. India To Get Massive Network Of Public Wi-Fi Hotspots.

CCTVs Help In Solving Crime

The report also highlights that just more CCTVs does not equal less crime. The study compared China’s Xiamen to the UK’s London, with both cities having around 400 CCTV cameras. The report highlights that CCTVs are more helpful in solving crimes than preventing them.
