In a dramatic turn of events, an IndiGo flight from Chennai to Mumbai faced a bomb threat on Saturday, leading to a full emergency being declared at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The threat prompted immediate and stringent security measures to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew onboard flight 6E-5314. This marks the second bomb scare for the airline in under a week, following a similar incident on a flight from Delhi to Varanasi.
IndiGo Faces Second Bomb Threat In A Week
The aircraft made a safe landing, and everyone disembarked right away at the isolation bay of the airport. The aircraft is being thoroughly inspected by security staff to guarantee everyone’s safety, according to CNBC TV 18. Airport authorities and IndiGo’s security team are taking every precaution to mitigate the threat and continue their investigation.
This is the second time in less than a week that an IndiGo flight has been the target of a bomb threat. On May 28, there was a similar scare on Delhi to Varanasi flight 6E2211. Shortly before takeoff, a piece of tissue paper in the aircraft lavatory contained a note that read, “BOMB BLAST @30 MINUTES.” According to NDTV reports, at Indira Gandhi International Airport, the aircraft, carrying 176 passengers, stopped on the runway.
In reaction, the plane was tucked into a far-off bay and the occupants were rescued using emergency slides. At 5:40 a.m., Delhi Fire Services confirmed receiving a bomb threat call. A quick response team searched the area but turned up nothing suspicious. After receiving refreshments during the wait, a different aircraft was scheduled, enabling the passengers to depart for Varanasi at 11:10 am. IndiGo apologised to the passengers for any inconvenience.

Recent Incident Involving Vistara
In a related incident, on May 31, a bomb threat was made against Vistara flight UK611. The flight was travelling from Delhi to Srinagar. This led to a brief panic at Srinagar International Airport. An anonymous threat to Srinagar’s Air Traffic Control (ATC) sparked the alarm and prompted quick security actions.
Due to these repeated threats, India’s main airports now have stricter security protocols and heightened vigilance to protect travellers. IndiGo and other airlines collaborate closely with airport security organisations to address these threats and uphold safety regulations.
To reassure the public of their dedication to aviation security, authorities are carrying out more investigations into these threats.
