If you are travelling to Delhi any time soon, then make sure that you are well clad. And we don’t just mean in terms of jackets, mufflers and hats; but umbrellas too! Delhi is about to witness some weather change and this is what you need to be prepared for.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, earlier this week, Delhi recorded the coldest morning of the season at 7.4 degrees Celsius. Along with that on December 12, Delhi witnessed rains and thunderstorm on December 12, which also led to the schedule of many flights being disrupted or getting diverted from the destination. But that’s not all.

Further Predictions

According to recent reports by weather channel, it is predicted that the Northern and Northern Central region is expected to witness heavy rains, thunderstorm and hailstorm in the coming days. Many people uploaded videos of hailstorm in Delhi when it dense clouds and heavy rains took over the city’s skyline on December 12.

Due to the precipitation, the city’s air quality dropped as well. According to reports, the Air Quality Index (AQI) which was recorded at 428, dropped to 316, shifting from severe to very poor category.

What It Means For The Traveller

Over 25 flights were diverted from the Delhi airport on Thursday, due to heavy rainfall. In the coming days dense fog is expected in the area too which is expected to disrupt the flight schedule as well. Meanwhile, Jammu-Srinagar national highway has been closed as Srinagar got a fresh bout of snowfall on December 12. Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu, too, received its first snowfall.
