Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium To Have A New World-Class Avatar; To Accommodate 60K Audience

Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha, is a prominent cricket venue in India. The iconic stadium has played host to multiple One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and Test matches. However now, it will be refurbished to provide room for a larger cricket stadium that can accommodate 60,000 spectators.

Barabati Stadium To Have A New Look

One of the most well-known cricket stadiums in the nation, Barabati Stadium is set to be transformed into a top-notch sports complex with world-class amenities for players of cricket and other sports. The objective is to elevate Odisha to the status of a significant cricketing station while simultaneously prioritising the growth of women’s cricket.

The famous Barabati stadium, which was constructed in 1952, will be in a new avatar altogether. With the BCCI and the Odisha Cricket Association, the Odisha government will support the construction of the new facility. The stadium will hold 60,000 spectators instead of just 42,000. A five-star hotel, offices, and a shopping mall are planned for the area next to the Barabati stadium. One of the primary open public areas for Cuttack’s residents will be the plaza that will be created in front of the stadium. The stadium’s accessibility, from parking to galleries to roadways, will meet worldwide standards for spectator comfort while watching games. Amenities like food courts and restrooms will also be provided.

When Will It Start?

Work on the development plan will shortly begin, with the foundation stone being set on February 27. In addition to concentrating on the growth of cricket, Odisha is the state’s official sponsor of Indian Hockey for men and women through 2033. The state plans to provide cricket training facilities with top-notch coaching across the state.

Constructed in 1952, this sports arena is among the most ancient in India. According to an article published in Hindustan Times, the Odisha Olympic Association’s general secretary, Bhairab Mohanty, came up with the concept for the 18-year Barabati Raffle, which raised money for the stadium’s construction. The nearby historical location of Barabati Fort is the inspiration behind the stadium’s name.

In 1982, India and England played their first international cricket match at the stadium, where India won. In 1987, it hosted the first-ever test match between Sri Lanka and India in cricket. With its lively atmosphere and enthusiastic crowd, Barabati Stadium is set to become an even more significant venue in Indian cricket.
