In case you missed it on the news, Cyclone Michaung is currently wreaking havoc on the east coast of India. Its impact is especially severe in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, as well as in the Union Territory of Pondicherry. Several pictures and videos of flooding have taken the Internet by storm. Here are all the latest updates about the storm and its impact on these regions.

Cyclone Michaung: Latest Updates About The Region

1. Cyclone Michaung To Make Landfall At 11 AM Today

Cyclone Michaung, which has now turned into a severe cyclonic storm, will make landfall today at 11 AM. According to an article which was recently published by NDTV, it will cross between Machilipatnam and Nellore, the south Andhra Pradesh coast. The Chief Minister of the state, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has ordered all officials to be on high alert owing to this fact. Officials are instructed to be prepared for relief measures.

2. Severe Waterlogging In Chennai

Chennai is currently witnessing severe waterlogging. Many areas have knee-deep water and if posts on social media are to go, it is severely impacting a lot of people. Videos of cars being washed away by the flooding have gone viral. Officials are constantly attempting to aid the situation.

3. Ten Districts In Tamil Nadu To Witness Thunderstorm Today

According to the weather forecast made by the Chennai Meteorological Centre, ten districts in Tamil Nadu can expect moderate rainfall and light thunderstorms today. These are Chengalpet, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Kanyakumari, Ranipet, Thiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, Tiruvallur and Vellore as well as Villupuram.

4. Indian Railways Sets Up Emergency Control Cell

To prepare for the storm and ensure that trains and railways incur minimal impact from it, the Indian Railway has set up an emergency control cell. The cell is at the divisional/HQ level and has officers from commercial, engineering, electrical, security and telecommunications as well as operating branches to monitor the situation round the clock and provide any assistance and take action with regards to train operations.

5. Cyclone To Be Severe Till December 6

The Indian Meteorological Department or the IMD has issued a warning stating that the storm will continue to be severe until the next 24 hours. Residents are advised to stay indoors and not leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.

6. Eight Deaths So Far Due To Heavy Rains

Since the heavy rainfall began in Chennai on Monday, a total of eight deaths have been recorded so far. One person died in the Besant Nagar area after a tree fell on him. Two people died due to electrocution.

7. Chennai Airport Resumes Operations

On Monday, December 4, the Chennai Airport shut down operations due to excessive waterlogging. Today, the airport notified that they had resumed operations and all arrivals and departures would take place as usual.
