The talented actress of Indian cinema, Deepti Naval, has had a very special connection with Kashmir since her childhood. No, she doesn’t hail from the stunning valley. Instead, she has always been mesmerised by its tranquil beauty. In her memoir titled  ‘A Country Called Childhood: A Memoir’, Deepti shared an interesting incident when she ran away to Kashmir at the age of 13 after being seduced by the valley’s charm picturised in films. Here’s all about it.

Deepti Naval Once Ran Away From Home To Visit Kashmir

According to Hindustan Times, Deepti Naval revealed in her memoir and at a literary event about the time she ran away to Kashmir at the age of 13. While she was initially very embarrassed to reveal this incident in her book, poet-lyricist Gulzar urged her to do so. At the age of 13, Deepti was mesmerised by Kashmir’s beauty after watching films like Kashmir Ki Kali and Jab Jab Phool Khile.

She lived in Amritsar at that time. And as a young child, she dreamed a lot about going and settling down in the mountains. So, one day, as a young teenager, without her parents’ knowledge, she left home to travel to Kashmir. She first boarded a train to Pathankot from Amritsar and then decided to take a bus to Jammu. But at Pathankot station itself, she was caught by the police, who brought her safely back home. Back home, her family also lodged a missing complaint. That’s how serious the whole situation became.

Kashmir Calling: She Even Leased A Shikhara On Dal Lake

In an interview with Times Of India, Deepti Naval spoke more about her filmy fixation with Kashmir. The talented actress also stated that she loved staying in a boat on Dal Lake and even leased it for 99 years. Dressed in burkhas, Deepti and her friend from Delhi signed the papers for the lease. Since then, every year during Ramzan, Deepti travels to Kashmir and stays in her shikhara.
