To effectively manage the increasing number of cases in the Capital, the Delhi government has converted South Delhi’s Radha Soami Satsang Beas Spiritual Centre into the world’s largest COVID care centre. Anil Baijal, Delhi Lieutenant Governor inaugurated the facility in Chattarpur on July 5, 2020. This new facility, known as the Sardar Patel COVID care centre, covers an area of roughly 20 football fields. It has 10,000 beds for treating coronavirus positive patients. The isolation facility is about 1700 feet long and 700 feet wide, and has 20 yards with 500 beds each.

According to Baijal, this new COVID care facility will play a ‘crucial role’ in the city’s battle against the pandemic. It has been equipped with oxygen cylinders, concentrators, ICUs, ventilators and more to respond to every kind of emergency. Also, the spiritual campus at Chattarpur had preinstalled CCTV cameras and fans, making it easier for the authorities to quickly convert it into a temporary coronavirus care facility. It has two sections. The first one is a COVID Care Centre (CCC), which will house asymptomatic coronavirus positive patients. Around 90 percent of the beds will be in the CCC area. The second one is a Dedicated COVID Health Care (DCHC) with oxygen support system for treating symptomatic patients.
