Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit Passengers Can Now Switch To Premium Class Coaches

The National Capital Regional Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is establishing India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System. It will be an 82-km-long high-speed premium class coach corridor between Delhi and Meerut. RRTS trains will be running at an average speed of 100 km/hr. The aim behind the execution of premium couches is to entice those currently traveling by private vehicles.

An Airport-Like Premium Lounge

The premium lounge will be exclusively for business class passengers on the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). Passengers will be able to access the premium lounge through a separate entrance on the platform of each station. According to reports, an NCRTC official said, “Each train will have a premium coach. Business or premium fares will be higher than regular tickets. Premium lounges will be similar to airport lounges and will have business class amenities.”

For those who buy tickets, based on QR codes, or regular national standard mobility cards and choose to board a premium coach, the fare will be deducted in advance. However, passengers paying via e-wallet will have the right to choose premium class after entering the lounge or traveling by standard coach.

Access To The Premium Will Be Controlled Using The Double Tap Functionality Implemented In The Rapid Transit

Yes, access to the premium lounge on the platform will be controlled using a double tap feature implemented in the RRTS (AFC) system. The AFC system will have two-level gates at the terminal, concourse, and platform. The lounge level gate will allow passengers access to the lounge area. At the platform, there will be a second row of doors to access the premium lounge, allowing access to premium coaches.
