It is only the middle of December and Delhiites are chilling and shivering in the cold already. Just like any other year, the city is back to making headlines for a significant drop in the temperature in the winter season. Delhi just witnessed its coldest morning so far this winter season. The national capital woke up to 4.9°C on Friday, making it the first time this season that the temperature went below 5°C.

Only garam garam paani se nahana chahiye as the mercury took a dip and Delhiites woke up experiencing a morning of 4.9°C on December 15. The India Meteorological Department stated that this major drop in the minimum temperature was recorded in Safdarjung. The New Delhi-Safdarjung monitoring station of the India Meteorological Department reported the coldest morning of this winter season.

The minimum temperature might have been witnessed only in Safdarjung but winter and its shivering chills were felt in most parts of the city. The Friday morning started with blankets of fog covering several parts of the national capital. Lodhi Road saw the temperature dipping to 5°C and the minimum was recorded at 6°C in Ayanagar, according to a report by India Today.

Cities close to Delhi always saw a colder morning on Friday. The mercury in Haryana’s Hisar saw a huge decline and the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.2°C. Hisar was considered to be the coldest plains of the country this morning. While Punjab opened its eyes to dense sheets of fog in many places, as shared by the India Meteorological Department, some areas of Assam, Bihar, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Uttar Pradesh saw shallow to moderate levels of fog.

Winter has been showing its real side for some time in the Northern parts of India. From areas covered in fog on both Thursday and Friday to the temperature continuing to decrease, many places of North India are witnessing the effects of the winter season to the fullest.

India’s Capital Is Colder Than Shimla

Delhiites are not only blessed to stay close to Shimla that they can plan a trip to the mountains at any time but they can feel the chilly weather of the hills in the city itself. The minimum temperature on Friday morning was higher in Delhi in comparison to that of Shimla. While Delhi recorded 4.9°C, the minimum temperature in the capital of Himachal Pradesh was 6.8°C, according to a report by NDTV. The weather predictions state that the maximum temperature in Shimla will be around 15°C.

The Delhi weather was quite cold on Thursday as well. The minimum temperature was 6.2°C and once again it was this season’s coldest temperature. With the mercury dropping further on Friday, the record for the coldest morning shifted to Friday. The maximum temperature was 24.1°C on Thursday. For today, it is expected to not cross 24°C.

The Air Quality Index in Delhi exceeded more than 250 today morning making everyone concerned for the growing air pollution.
