Delhiites Must Now Pay ₹2000 Fine For Not Wearing Mask From ₹500

The alarming surge in the number of coronavirus cases in Delhi has driven the authorities to take stringent measures to bring the infection spread under control. One of such measures has been hiking the fine amount from ₹500 to ₹2000 for mask violators. Delhi Cheif Minister, Arvind Kejriwal has also asked social organisations and political parties to distribute masks in public places. Arrangements have been made for increasing the number of ICU beds too for treating the COVID-19 patients. Meanwhile, Delhi Metro is providing real-time updates on waiting time at busy stations.

₹2000 Fine For Not Wearing Masks In Delhi

Right after the festive season, Delhi has witnessed new highs in coronavirus cases. The situation has worsened due to the falling temperatures and smog. With around 7546 fresh cases, the coronavirus tally in the capital has reached nearly 511000. The death toll has been around 8041. Amid the surge, to ensure that people wear masks in public places, the Delhi government has increased the mask fine to ₹2000 from ₹500. Cops in Delhi have been strictly monitoring the wearing of masks on streets and are charging people even if they are travelling inside cars without masks. Additionally, the CM has appealed to social organisations and political parties to distribute face masks. He has also decided to shut down markets in the hotspots. Also, Delhi Airport has started COVID tests at ₹2400 for both domestic and international passengers.

The Number Of ICU Beds Increased For Virus-Affected Patients

With the rising number of cases, the demand for beds in the hospitals has also increased. The government has arranged for more than 1400 ICU beds. This includes 750 beds in Centre-run facilities and 663 in Delhi government hospitals. Private hospitals will assign 60 percent non-ICU beds and 80 percent ICU beds for coronavirus patients. The Delhi CM has also postponed public celebrations of Chhat puja in the capital this year, including the holy dip.
