Differently-Abled Woman Denied Entry In Gurugram Restaurant; Owner Apologises

Shrishti Pandey, a differently-abled woman took to social media to reveal her harrowing experience at the popular restaurant Raasta in Gurugram. She revealed that the restaurant denied her entry as she was in a wheelchair, the employees said it would disturb the customers. On February 12 she narrated the entire incident on Twitter. Gurugram’s Raasta Condemned For Treating Differently-Abled Customer Poorly

Recalling the incident, Shrishti Pandey said she went to dine in Raasta in Gurugram with her best friend and her family. The Delhi resident visited Cyber Hub in the city and asked for a reservation at the restaurant. The manager ignored her friend’s brother’s request for a reservation. The staff stated that customers would be disturbed inside, so after a lot of arguments,  he led them to the outside seating. Srishti stated through tweets that the outside seating was cold and detrimental to her health as her body gets spastic due to cold weather.

Raasta Management Issued Apology

Srishti Pandey is pursuing Masters in Psychology from Delhi University. She revealed to ANI that as a differently-abled woman this wasn’t the first time where was unfairly treated. The woman said that as a differently-abled person she needs basic acceptance, rights, sensitivity and care just as much as anyone in the country. Netizens supported her Srishti by sharing and commenting on her story. Many condemned Raasta restaurant for its unfair treatment. Meanwhile, Goumtesh Singh,  co-founder of Raasta issued an apology to Srishti Pandey on Twitter. He revealed that the team at Raasta are taking steps internally to heighten sensitivity and empathy amongst their staff, so such incidents can be handled better in the future.
