Dubai, the jewel of the Middle East, has clinched a remarkable position among the world’s top 10 cities in the prestigious Global Power City Index (GPCI) 2023. Published by the Mori Memorial Foundation’s Institute for Urban Strategies, this index meticulously evaluates 48 major global cities based on their magnetic pull—measuring their ability to attract people, capital, and enterprises worldwide. Dubai Secures 1st Spot Regionally And 10th Globally In Global Power City Index

Notably, it not only secured a position in the top 10 globally but also clinched the top spot in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, outshining prominent counterparts like Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, and Cairo. Japan’s Mori Memorial Foundation’s Institute for Urban Strategies publishes the index, assessing major cities based on their “magnetism”, their capability to attract people, capital, and businesses.

Dubai’s prowess lies in its stellar performance across key functions. They are notably the economy, cultural interaction, and accessibility. Ranking 4th in the economy function, Dubai showcases a diversified and resilient economic landscape, encompassing trade, logistics, tourism, finance, and technology. The city’s cultural interaction prowess at 4th place is maintained as well.

Despite its triumphs, Dubai faces challenges in research and development, livability, and environmental functions. Ranking 28th in research and development, Dubai is investing in strengthening its scientific and technological innovation. It’s particular focus is on renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology. The 29th position in livability prompts Dubai to enhance public services, social infrastructure, and urban planning. In the environmental realm, ranking 30th, Dubai is actively pursuing initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint, expand green spaces, and champion the circular economy.
