According to Mercer’s cost of living ranking, Dubai is the 18th most expensive city in the world for expats to live in 2023. And if you look at the Middle East, it is the second most costly city after Tel Aviv for expats.

Dubai walked up 13 places and secured the 18th rank in this year’s list, while Abu Dhabi walked up 18 places to secure the 43rd position.

On the list, the three most expensive cities for expats to live in the world this year are Hong Kong, Singapore, and Zurich. The three cheapest cities on the list were Islamabad, Karachi, and Havana.

This ranking by Mercer’s comes after taking into account the cost of over 200 items in every single city. This includes food, clothing, housing, household goods, transportation, and entertainment. The report also shows how many countries are still trying to overcome the losses they have faced due to the Russia-Ukraine war and COVID-19.

The UAE was ranked among the top 10 countries in the world for expats last year. With its expat population praising its leisure facilities, convenient travel and transit alternatives, and the fact that 80% of expats believe their professional opportunities have improved, the country performed well in most categories.

The UAE is the only nation in the Middle East to make it into the top 10, coming in at number six on the list of the best places for expats to reside in 2022.
