Airline Ratings has selected Etihad as the “Environmental Airline of the Year 2022” for its annual awards. For both the airline and the industry, Etihad’s industry-leading approach to improving aviation sustainability is recognise by the rating. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) will happen in the United Arab Emirates in 2023. Between 2018 and 2021, Etihad Airways reduced its carbon emissions by 56%. However, it effectively executed programmes to develop a more sustainable business model.

UAE As Host For COP 28 

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) will happen in the United Arab Emirates in 2023. As a result of Etihad’s success, Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates have reaffirmed their commitment to working with the international community. Therefore, to accelerate global efforts to address climate change and environmental protection and build a more sustainable economic future.

The Etihad Airways Sustainability Report, which Airline Ratings celebrate as a gold standard for the industry, got released recently. It shows how far sustainable aviation can develop via various efforts.

Etihad’s Ambition To Become Leader In Aviation Sustainability 

To begin, Etihad’s sustainability efforts focused on improving the company’s operations efficiency. In its third year, this multi-faceted initiative comprises cooperation with leading new-technology companies. Moreover, with university researchers and start-ups, including Boeing, GE, Airbus, and Rolls Royce also. 

Sustainable50 A350-1000 and the Greenliner programme, which utilises the airline’s fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners as test beds, are two of Etihad’s most visible sustainability initiatives. 

Etihad was the first airline to acquire commercial financing based on verifiable conformity with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Moreover, the airline’s extensive testing and innovation program (UN SDGs). Plans to construct carbon-absorbing forests in Etihad’s countries were the driving force behind the initiative.
