Australian Government Advises Visitors To Behave In Bali

The Australian government has advised visitors to Bali to heed Indonesia’s requests for appropriate behavior. This year, Bali has taken a strong stance against visitors who disregard the laws and customs of the island.

A special task force was formed to keep an eye on the activities of foreign visitors; an official list of dos and don’ts for tourists was produced; a hotline was set up for anybody to report unruly travellers; and a tourist tax is scheduled to be implemented the following year.

The plea from Bali’s officials for Australians to show respect for religious sites was one thing that Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister Tim Watts told last week was “really clear.”

Indonesian Deputy Tourism Minister Ni Made Ayu Marthini made explicit reference to two restrictions on the list of dos and don’ts, stating that visitors shouldn’t be riding motorbikes without helmets or wearing bikinis to temples, in addition to disregarding other traffic laws.
