It’s that time of the season again when we desi foodies are hooked on to our TV sets every night to catch the latest episode of MasterChef India. Season 7 of the show features judges Ranveer Brar, Vikas Khanna and Garima Arora and is a masterclass in food itself. Take the example of the recent episode where we pasta lovers were introduced to three new varieties of pasta which we haven’t even heard of before, let alone pronounce them right. Forget penne and fusilli, check out these types of pasta.

MasterChef India Introduces Pasta Lovers To 3 Different Types of Pasta

MasterChef India contestants geared up for their first team service challenge. The judges first chose Aruna, a home cook from Tamil Nadu as the captain of the red team, as she won the immunity pin in the previous episode. to choose the second captain, Chef Ranveer Brar called all the contestants who qualified for the immunity pin round.

The chef then threw a pasta challenge to choose the second captain. He introduced the contestants (and us) to three unique types of pasta. The first is Malloreddus. This pasta is shaped with a fork to look like little shells. The chef explained that this pasta goes really well with tomato ragu and tomato sauce.

The second pasta is Lorighittas. Translating to ‘small rings’, this pasta originates from the Morgongiori village. Chef Ranveer Brar explained that Italians prepare this pasta as an ode to saints and the elderly. And the third pasta is Trofie. This is a thin twisted pasta which goes really well with pesto sauce.

Contestants Took On Season’s First Restaurant Service Challenge

Chef Ranveer Brar quickly gave a demo on how to shape the different types of pasta using the provided dough. The contestants watched him closely and then attempted to make the three types of pasta —  Malloreddus(using spinach dough), Lorighittas (with beetroot dough) and Lorighittas ( with egg dough) within a short period of time.

Priyanka successfully completed the challenge and became the captain of the green team. With 7 contestants in each team, MasterChef India geared up for its first team restaurant service challenge of the season. The teams had to prepare a 4-course authentic Italian meal for 30 diners.
