Although the UAE has now eased restrictions, visiting tourist attractions like before might be far-fetched. But wait! Google Arts & Culture brings the world’s art and culture under one umbrella, so it easy to access. And the best part- its absolutely FREE!
The platform works with cultural institutions and artists around the world to preserve and bring the world’s art and culture online so it’s accessible to anyone, anywhere. The free-to-use platform provides users an immersive experience to all the hidden details and the world’s greatest treasures.
How Does It Work?
All you need to do is download the app. You can then travel to iconic landmarks, step inside museums from around the world and take virtual tours with street view- as if you were there in person. The platform uses a special immersive camera called the Art Camera which helps you delve into details.
Art-lovers can explore the crossroads between culture as well as try out experiments created at by Lab engineers, artists, curators and creative coders.
Another interesting feature on the platform is the Art Selfie. The feature is powered by computer vision technology based on machine learning. When you take a selfie, your photo is compared with faces in museums. After a short moment, you will see your results along with a percentage to estimate the visual similarity of each match and your face.
Kids can experience direct encounters with Jurassic dinosaur in the 360 degree videos while adults can play a game of treasure hunt at London’s British Museum using Street View. There’s also a dedicated corner for families to discover more about art, culture, music and art together in a fun and engaging way.
So, now you know what to do this weekend- apart from Netflix and chill, of course!
