Good News, Flyers! Jeypore Airport In Odisha Gets Aerodrome License

Odisha brings in good news for the Flyers. Yes, you heard it right! Odisha’s Jeypore airport can now handle scheduled commercial flights. This will be done under the government’s regional connectivity scheme UDAN, or Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik. The news comes in after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation granted an aerodrome licence to Jeypore airport on Thursday. Read on to know the whole story.

Civil Aviation Ministry Is Keen To Explore More Airstrips in Odisha

Odisha is currently home to only one airport under UDAN which is the Jharsuguda airport. However, the Civil Aviation Ministry is keen on exploring more airstrips in Odisha. This will be done to promote wildlife and tourism in the state.

Keeping in mind the same, the Ministry is taking into consideration Malkangiri and Hirakud for the next UDAN phase. Konark and Baripada are also taken into consideration by the Odisha government as an airstrip. This will be done to promote spiritual tourism in the state. Talkinga bout the same, Former Minister Of Tribal Affairs wrote, “Visited Jeypore Airport, Recently this airport got the license to carry out scheduled air operations under #UDAN. This will help boost tourism and development of this tribal region. #SabUdenSabJuden.” Take a look:

UDAN

Keeping in mind the review of The National Civil Aviation Policy in 2016, RCS-UDAN was formulated with a plan to remain in force for 10 years. Having a self-financing mechanism with the development of the Regional Connectivity Fund (RCF), UDAN connects 68 unserved destinations which include 58 Airports, eight heliports, and two water aerodromes.

Ministry Of Civil Aviation took to Twitter to reveal the news. Their tweet reads, “Another milestone a day ahead of #UDANDiwas! Jeypore Airport of Odisha, gets the license to carry out scheduled air operations under #UDAN. This will help boost tourism and development of this tribal region. #SabUdenSabJuden.”
