Pets are welcome to travel internationally, but you must follow some rules in most countries. The UAE is becoming more pet-friendly due to increased worldwide interest in the country as a tourist destination and a cosmopolitan residence. A Valid Import Permit is Required 

You’ll need a pet passport and an updated vaccination record to get pet import permission before you go. Remember that you must use an appropriate pet carrier that complies with IATA requirements while flying. Find out which dog breeds are prohibited from entering the United Arab Emirates. 

Documents Required For the Import Permit 

  • An actual animal passport or immunisation card, including information about the pet’s microchip, date of birth, and treatment history.
  • A certified health certificate from the exporting nation demonstrates the presence of a microchip and documentation of a health check completed by any local veterinarian.
  • A certificate requires for Rabies Serum Neutralization (RSNT) within 90 days of travel for your pet.

Costs of bringing pets to the UAE

Importing pets may sometimes be costly, but the costs vary depending on the country. When it comes to exporting and importing your cat or dog, there are a lot of taxes to consider, especially in the UAE.

  • Fee for one pet (cat or dog) import permit: 500 Dirhams (Dhs), which is around $136.
  • A cat inspection costs 500 Dhs.
  • A dog inspection costs 1000 Dhs. 

Other things Which You Should Know 

  • Make sure your pet travels within 30 days because the permit is valid for that limited period only. 
  • All the pets are shipped through cargo based on the IATA regulations. 
  • They are not allowed to travel on the same flight with their owners. 
  • However, you can pay to bring your cat/dog aboard Etihad Operated flights to and from Abu Dhabi. 
  • While travelling with Ethihad, your per will sit in their carrier under your seat. Else, you can purchase an adjacent sear from them to sir in their carrier next to you. 
  • Only two pets are allowed per person to travel to the UAE. Each pet needs to have an import permit. 
  • The best part is that no quarantine is required for pets entering UAE. 
  • All pets entering the UAE need to prove that they are rabies-free.
