Chinese are using Bappi Lahiri’s Jimmy Jimmy song to protest against the ongoing zero-COVID policy in China.

Jie Mi is a phrase in the Mandarin language that means Give me rice. The Chinese are using the song to vent their anger and frustration because of the zero-COVID policy. As seen in the video, a woman is using empty vessels in the video. And the reason is to show that they cannot even get the basic essential foods and ingredients during the lockdown.

As Jie Mi stands for Give me rice and it sounds quite similar to Jimmy, the iconic Jimmy Jimmy song of Bappi Lahiri is becoming the new protest anthem. The entire world is lifting COVID-19-related travel restrictions. Amidst every other country in the world, China is currently undergoing a stringent zero-COVID policy. The government decided to enforce heavy lockdowns in many parts of China.

Residents are not allowed to stay outside of their houses and they are staying inside for days and weeks. In between all these, the Chinese became frustrated with the new policies and they choose social media to vent their anger and harshly criticise the lockdown. The viral video of the woman dancing has somehow not come across the Chinese censors yet. About 2,675 positive cases were reported in China the last Sunday. It is an increase of about 800 positive cases from Saturday.
