I Flew To Dubai For The First Time Since Pandemic & Here’s Everything That Has Changed!

UAE had banned most travellers from India but kept a window open for local residents and diplomats. Many made it to the emirates on ‘chartered flights’ but I decided to wait for a time when the travel restrictions were a bit more relaxed. After a long hiatus, a fresh set of guidelines from the United Arab Emirates made travel from India easier, and Indian travellers were ‘finally’ allowed to get a visa on arrival in the UAE. I hopped on this opportunity without further ado!

I Travelled To Dubai To Surprise My Sister On Her Birthday

I travelled across 8 cities in 20 days to finish 10 pending projects of Curly Tales India only to be able to travel to Dubai and surprise my sister on her birthday, who I haven’t seen in the last two years. Surely, flying international is not as seamless as it used to be in pre-covid days. You need to book your tickets in advance as fares can get crazy expensive. Also, ensure that you get a tourist visa.

Dubai’s Latest Entry Rules: I Had To Take 3 COVID-19 Tests

I travelled with my daughter, Zianna, and here’s a low-down on all the guidelines we had to follow during our travel.

  • I had an RT-PCR test taken 48 hours before departure. Test reports need to have a QR code that is verified at the airport. Make sure to take the test at a certified lab which issues a QR code linked to your original report. Let me warn you, every document is thoroughly checked, so no photoshop business here.
  • I had to take another PCR test at the airport before departure. Earlier, this test had to be taken within 4 hours from departure. Now, you have some more leeway and can take the test within 6 hours. Test results take 30-45 minutes so, I took no chance and reached the airport 5 hours before departure. It was a relief for Zianna as kids below 12 do not need to get tested. We spent our time lounging in the business lounge recliner seats and relishing a yummy meal.
  • I was asked to take another PCR test on arrival at Dubai airport, the results of which are sent via SMS after four hours. Please note that irrespective of your vaccination status, you must undergo all three tests.
