The Diwali festival is almost here, and of course, we’re busy cleaning our homes and preparing sweets and snacks. This festival also calls for visiting relatives and exchanging boxes of sweets. And let’s not forget Soan Papdi, the sweet that somehow makes its way into almost every Diwali gift exchange. Here’s why this sweet is a Diwali favourite, even when it’s nobody’s actual favourite!

Why Is Soan Papdi A Popular Diwali Sweet?

As Diwali approaches, social media is filled with people complaining about cleaning their homes and welcoming the return of the iconic Soan Papdi season. Many are joking about how they received neither a bonus nor a box of Soan Papdi, while others complain that their offices have gifted them Soan Papdi yet again. Some users are also sharing jokes about how these sweet boxes keep passing from one person to another.

One Instagram user, Anmol Sachar (@anmolsachar), took to his social media handle to ask for justice for Soan Papdi, and I definitely agree with him. As for Rupal Choudhary (@rupalchoudhary107) shared how this sweet box keep getting passed on.

But have you ever thought about why this sweet still sees a rise in sales? Unlike other sweets like Rasgulla, Gulab Jamun, or Kalakand, Soan Papdi lasts longer because its dry, flaky texture contains very little moisture. Unlike many milk-based sweets, it does not spoil as quickly when stored properly.

Cheaper Than Most Other Sweets

Another reason why Soan Papdi is one of the go-to sweet boxes for gifting is how budget-friendly it is. Sweets like Kaju Katli, Laddoos, and Barfi can almost burn a hole in our pockets. But getting the same quantity of Soan Papdi turns out to be much more budget-friendly, making it a safe choice for our wallets.

Also, when we get confused about what to buy, the moment our eyes land on Soan Papdi, it feels like a safe option. Besides all the facts, I personally love the taste of Soan Papdi and how it melts in my mouth.
