From Mobile Phones To Food Seasoning, Ex-Pilot Gaurav Taneja Spills 8 Secrets Airlines Don’t Tell You

Not many people know that one of the most famous YouTubers, Gaurav Taneja, also known as Flying Beast, was an airline pilot for over 10 years. Recently, he took to his YouTube channel to drop a video where he revealed eight airline secrets that many are still unaware of. The secrets revealed by him are shocking and offer important insights. Read to know what these eight secrets are.

Gaurav Taneja Reveals Eight Airline Secrets

In the YouTube video, Gaurav Taneja revealed eight airline secrets that staff don’t want us to know. Here’s the list.

1. Pilots don’t eat the same meal

Each flight has two pilots, and to ensure they stay healthy and don’t fall ill, they never eat the same meal. For them, food is prepared days in advance, frozen, and then heated on board. However, they don’t eat the same meal to avoid the chance of both falling ill during emergencies.

2. Mobiles are safe

The no-phone rule in the running flight was initially for just older GSM devices, as they can affect aircraft communication. Now, passengers can use their mobiles because 4G and 5G phones don’t cause any harm. But to avoid any risk, staff still ask passengers to switch off or put their mobiles on aeroplane mode.

3. Commercial planes can’t release Fuel

Military aircraft can release fuel to decrease the plane’s weight, but that’s not the case with commercial flights. Commercial flights like the Boeing 737 Max and Airbus A320 Neo cannot dump fuel.

4. Oxygen masks last for 12-15 minutes

For emergencies, aeroplanes have oxygen masks; however, they just last for 12 to 15 minutes. When an aircraft suddenly loses cabin pressure, the oxygen masks that drop down don’t have unlimited oxygen. They can just last for some time, enough for the pilot to make a safe landing.

5. Pilots can shut down the air conditioning

To pass on the energy to the engines during takeoff, the aircraft turns off the air conditioning. Moreover, to save fuel mid-flight, sometimes the air conditioning is also shut down.

6. Toilet and tea water are from the same tank

A single tank of water is used for both the toilet and tea. While it is supposed to be cleaned regularly, Gaurav revealed that the cleaning process is complicated, and airlines or engineers might sometimes cut corners.

7. Pilots can take 30-minute naps

Another airline secret revealed by Gaurav Taneja is that in a flight journey of more than three hours, pilots are allowed to take a 30-minute nap. But they can’t take a nap during takeoff, landing, climb, or descent.

8. Different seasoning on airline food

In a flight above 35,000 feet, passengers experience different tastes in their food. It’s because airline meals have extra sugar, salt, and spices.

Gaurav Taneja And Air India

Gaurav Taneja, who worked as a pilot for over 10 years, spoke on the recent Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad. He said the initial report should be released within 30 days and pointed to both engine failure and human error as possible causes. He also demanded more transparency, revealing his concern over the black boxes being sent to the US, which he felt could lead to bias due to Boeing’s influence, Aviation News reported.
