On April 12, Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92. She left behind a rich legacy that generations will remember. To honour this legacy and fulfil one of her long-cherished dreams, the Maharashtra government on Monday announced plans to establish a music institute in honour of the late legendary singer.
According to Hindustan Times, the music institute is likely to come up at Bandra Reclamation, near Hotel Rangsharda. CM Devendra Fadnavis announced the plans and shared that the idea had originally come from Asha Bhosle herself. While addressing the media, he said, “The government will take this proposal forward. Steps will be taken to bring the institute envisioned by her into reality.”

According to a senior government official, Asha Bhosle had expressed a desire to establish a music institute in Maharashtra and had discussed the proposal with Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar. In fact, HT reported that the process of identifying a suitable land had already begun before her passing.
Now, to fulfil her dream, the state will establish a music institute in her name. The institute aims to meet international standards and provide world-class music education to emerging talent.
Hindustan Times reported that this will be the second music institute in Maharashtra dedicated to a legendary singer. In January 2022, an international music college was announced in honour of Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away a month later in February.
In February 2024, a 7,000-square-metre plot at the University of Mumbai’s Kalina campus was identified for the Bharat Ratna Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar International College of Music and Museum. The Mangeshkar family approved the design, and an advisory board was formed to help develop the curriculum.
