Karnataka’s Famous Sweet, Belagavi Kunda, Is Now An Ice Cream! Where You Can Get It?

With Diwali 2026 around the corner, Hangyo has now launched the famous Belagavi Kunda as an ice cream flavour! It is a rich, grainy, milk-based sweet that people enjoy in the city of Belagavi in North Karnataka, India. Known for its caramel-like flavours, foodies will now get a chance to taste it in the form of an ice cream.

Hangyo Turns Belagavi Kunda Into An Ice Cream Flavour

In Karnataka, it is known as Kunda; in Tamil Nadu, it’s Paalkova; in Maharashtra, it’s Khava, and in North India, this delicious sweet is known as Mawa. The name changes every few hundred kilometres, but the sweet remains the same. Hangyo, a popular Indian ice cream and frozen dessert brand, has now turned this delicious, nostalgic sweet into an ice cream flavour called Belagavi Kunda Ice Cream, ahead of the festive season.

Belagavi Kunda is known for its beautiful deep brown colour and distinct nutty caramel flavour. And you would be surprised to know that sweet maker Raghunathji Joshi discovered it completely by accident in Belgaum over 100 years ago. According to the website All About Belgaum, the sweet maker moved from Rajasthan to Belagavi (Belgaum) and set up a small sweet shop.

One day, he put a pot of sweetened milk on the stove to boil and got distracted by other chores. Since he completely forgot about the milk, it boiled down extensively and turned into a thick, caramelised brown paste. But instead of throwing it away, he found it delicious and experimented by adding khoya and other ingredients to create its signature grainy texture. He named his creation “Kunda”.

Same Nostalgic Flavour In A Different Format

Taking the love for this sweet forward, Hangyo has now launched this ice cream. Fresh milk cake or Belagavi Kunda is a short-lived pleasure, usually best enjoyed within about 48 hours. As an ice cream, it can stay in the freezer for longer. So this festive favourite can be enjoyed every day. For anyone who grew up with this sweet, this ice cream promises the same nostalgic feel but in a new format.

And yes, it’s a permanent flavour by Hangyo, not just a limited-edition one. Made with real milk, it is available in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala and Goa.

The 100 ml pack is priced at ₹50, while a 40-litre bulk pack can be purchased for ₹1,500. Hangyo also offers ice cream flavours like Filter Coffee, Aam Ras, Gudbud and more.
