Mumbai: Are Residents Allowed To Sleep On Versova Beach Amid Sweltering Heat? Is It Safe?

This year, the monsoon has been delayed, and people across many cities are finding it difficult to cope with the scorching heat. If you’ve been in Mumbai, especially during the summer, you might know how humid the city gets, making it difficult to go about daily life. Amid this intense heat, many Mumbai residents are spending their nights on Versova Beach. Read on to know why.

Mumbai Residents Are Sleeping On Versova Beach

On social media, a video is going viral showing a very unusual sight from Versova Beach in Mumbai. Rajesh Kumar Reddy (@rajeshreddyega) has also shared a video in which several people can be seen sleeping on the famous Versova Beach. Residents have taken this step because of the high humidity and intense heat.

Most of the people sleeping on the beach are from nearby slum areas. Due to poor ventilation and cramped living spaces in these settlements, staying indoors has become difficult for many residents.

As the sun sets, many residents make their way to Versova Beach with their families after sunset. They spend the night on the sand and return home early in the morning before starting their day. For them, the cool sea breeze feels much better than the hot and humid conditions inside their homes.

Authorities Inspect The Site

After noticing a large number of people sleeping on Versova Beach at night, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) officials visited the area to understand the situation better. As per Free Press Journal, the inspection was carried out after concerns grew over residents spending their nights on the beach.

During their visit, officials interacted with several people and found that most of them were residents of the nearby Indira Nagar area. Many said they had no option but to sleep outdoors because the heat inside their tin-roof homes had become unbearable.

People are currently able to sleep on Versova Beach as there are no reported restrictions on staying there at night. The beach does not have fixed opening or closing hours, allowing residents to spend the night there.
