India’s live entertainment scene is evolving beyond larger concerts, packed venues and rising ticket sales. Live events are increasingly becoming spaces for emotional connection, cultural discovery and shared experiences, changing how people engage with music and one another. While the growth of live entertainment has traditionally been measured through ticket sales, attendance and venue capacity, the experience extends beyond these numbers. To understand these changing behaviours, BookMyShow Live, a promoter and producer of live entertainment experiences in India, has released OOO: Offline. Outdoors. Out Loud. – Live Season 25/26, Decoded. The report examines the motivations, rituals and emotions that shape how audiences engage with live entertainment. Scroll down to know more.
BookMyShow Report Reveals Why People Attend Live Events & Concerts
Based on responses from nearly 1,700 concert and festival-goers across 75 cities, the report explores why people attend live events and what these experiences mean to them. It finds that eight in 10 respondents consider concert-going a regular part of their lives, suggesting that live entertainment is becoming a recurring part of how people spend their time. The reasons for attending are also rooted in personal connections rather than simply following a trend. About 51% of respondents said they attend concerts because they have followed an artist’s journey for years, while only 4% cited fear of missing out (FOMO).
Naman Pugalia, Chief Business Officer – Live Events at BookMyShow, said people are increasingly choosing shared experiences in a world where much of life takes place through screens. He added that the report aims to understand the culture developing around live entertainment and the sense of belonging it creates.

The report highlights the emotional significance of live events for audiences. About 44% of respondents said they attended a live show hoping to feel emotionally healed. Meanwhile, 66% said hearing an entire crowd sing a chorus together gave them the strongest chills, while 56% reported experiencing a moment of connection with a stranger at a live event. These findings point to how concerts can create a sense of collective belonging. People arrive independently but share the same music, emotions and moments, often forming connections that last beyond the performance.
The concert experience also begins well before an artist takes the stage. Group chats, outfit planning and countdowns build anticipation, while photographs, conversations, setlist searches and plans for future shows extend the experience after the event.
Live Events Are Changing Music Discovery And Fan Culture
Live entertainment is also emerging as a platform for discovering new music. According to the report, 72% of respondents discovered a new artist at a BookMyShow Live show during the season. This highlights how live performances can introduce audiences to artists they may not have encountered through streaming platforms, playlists or algorithms.
BookMyShow Live has increasingly moved beyond facilitating access to events to producing and curating experiences that bring artists, genres and communities together. From international artists performing in India to festivals featuring multiple genres, these events offer audiences opportunities to discover new music and connect with fellow fans.
